Emily Iva Floyd 

Pilates

Emily Iva Floyd is a Dance Movement Specialist in the North Dallas area where she currently works with pre-professional and professional dancers. She is also the owner of McKinney Movement Center (Pilates & Fitness Studio) and has enjoyed working with dancers from Elite Classical Coaching and other schools for several years now, several of whom have placed a regionals for YAGP, ADC IBC, as well as attended the prestigious Prix De Lausanne & USA International Ballet Competitions. Emily holds a BFA in Dance from Florida State University (FSU), is a Comprehensive Certified Pilates Instructor through Balanced Body (500+ Hrs) and The National Pilates Certification Program (NCPT). She also teaches the GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS® Methods, Progressing Ballet Technique, and is a former professional dancer. 

 

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, she trained with The Thompson family & April Wexelman where she competed at conventions such as NYCDA, Nuvo, and Jump. She continued her dance training at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts where she worked with guest choreographers such as Robert Battle, Attila Joey Csiki, and Jennifer Archibald. In 2014, she earned her BFA in Dance from Florida State University, where she trained with Lynda Davis, Gerri Houlihan, Anjali Austin, Rick McCullough, Sheila Humphreys, Ilana Goldman, Anthony Morgan, and Tim Glenn. There she developed an interest in dance science, interned with Tom Welsh (former President of IADMS), and took several courses on Anatomy & Kinesiology for Dancers.

 

After graduating, Emily moved to New York City to dance professionally and work with the dancers in the Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Year Round Program. She danced with contemporary companies such as Jee Ahn + Dancers, Spaces of Fontana, and attended master workshops with David Parsons (Parsons Dance), Larry Keigwin (Keigwin + Company), Jennifer Archibald, and The American Dance Festival. Her passion for dance brought her into working in Arts Administration where helped develop wellness programming & injury protocols for notable dance schools in the northeast such as The Rock School For Dance Education, The Bolshoi Ballet Academy (NYC Summer Program), Peridance Capezio Center, and Wingspan Arts. Her dream has always been to help increase the quality of life for dancers so they could have a prolonged professional career. Emily understands the industry demands, technical demands, and the language of dance in ways that she is able to help dancers develop the grit, grace, artistry, and intelligence necessary to take risks, dream big, and make it happen! She is thrilled to be a part of the Elite Classical Coaching team.
